General Motors presented the new models of the Buick brand to the Chinese market on the 28th September 2013. Directly on the coast of the megacity Qingdao Bocatec cared for a fulminant kick-off of the car presentation with a laser show with harbor view.

Buick war already founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick in Michigan as an independent car brand. William Durant, who founded General Motors in 1908, took over the brand in 1904. Until the 70ies Buick was very successful inside the USA. In Qingdao Buick now presented the new medium class models of the series Regal and Regal GS. Therefor Buick invited more than 600 customers to a big open air show on the vestibule of the former Olympic station. Meanwhile in China the brand Buick is quite famous, every place in front of the self-constructed stage was taken.

A+ car laser show becomes talk of the town
Inspired by the car show in Chengdu, where Bocatec made a strong presentation for the brand INFINITI, the Buick people engaged the team from Hamburg for the laser show in Qingdao. The former German colony and coastal metropolis is well known for its beer. Bocatec boss – Boris Bollinger – felt like home and also the collaboration with the technicians on site worked perfectly well.

That’s what is behind

3 Bocatec guys (light designers, light technicians and laser technicians) and other ten technical guys on site did the 6-day build-up for the whole light and laser show. More than 60 spot-moving heads and 40 washers had to be installed, 11 high-power lasers each with more than 10-20W white light power, 8 fog and wind machines and 6 hazers were used. The control was done by the PHOENIX show controller.  Parallel to the laser show there were videos from Buick run on different screens, synchronized via SMPTE-time code. In only 2 weeks a 5 minute laser- and light show was ready that almost stole the show from the new model row Regal.

Weather capers and good luck
After it dad rained the whole afternoon and the stage was under water until shortly before the show, on Saturday evening at 19pm everything was perfectly ready. The rain went away and the Buick cars drove as stars of the evening on the stage. The new models drove harmonized with the music and light under a sea of laser beams onto the stage.

The customers were very delighted by the Bocatec performance and the tip-top laser show and fully satisfied about the evening. Further car presentations are surely realized by Bocatec as partner. Parallel our expertise for fulminant car shows got around, so that Bocatec will beam the lasers again already in November for the high-performance brand Mercedes AMG.

The ceremony of the Mercedes AMG Driving Performance Awards on 20th November showed off highlight after highlight.  The Velodrom in Guangzhou was the location of the mega racing car spectacle. Bocatec trumped with a final of superlatives at the ending of the show.

AMG goes all out
Over 700 guests – customers, stars, dealers and press people came together in the huge, ultra-modern velodrom, that was built in 2010 for the Chinese bike sport events in futuristic architecture. To join in the guests AMG installed an AMG Racing Park with driving simulators, a Pit-stop competition and a “Photo finish” podium. Here every guest could try himself as race driver, take a look at the AMG collection and admire the Box Babes.

Program without ending
The three hour program then offered a multimedia fireworks made of single acts. Two famous television presenters guided through the show. Video projections on the hall top alternated with speeches from AMG executives, live presentations of the new high-performance-models and performances of Chinese superstars.

At 21:20 am Bocatec heralded the hammer final of the evening with a congenial light- and laser show. Five professional break-dancers with LED costumes performed around the show and the AMG models drove on stage for the family-car-parade. Bocatec also escorted the entrance of the „King of Asian PopEason Chan with a laser- and light effects and guided the show to its climax.


Bocatec in pole position
After having got the order for the show only 4 weeks before, 4 Bocatec guys flew to Guangzhou for one week. The laser freaks from Hamburg left nothing to chance for the technics array. With six full-color laser projectors: (2 x 14W, 3x20W, 1x10W) 8 fog machines, 2 hazers and an incredible 300 moving head light spots a lot of equipment was mounted. All centrally pulsed via W-LAN with SMPTE time code and controlled onto point with PHOENIX show controller.

The extremely sporty and cool event beamed the guests up. Bocatec felt perfectly in its element and was happy to be one of the many brilliant acts hitting the ground running for the power brand. Even Mika Häkkinnen congratulated Boris Bollinger of Bocatec personally to the greatest show he had ever seen. For the next race we are already on the starting list and keep our foot on the fuel pedal.


On Saturday evening the 23rd November the highest building of Germany, the Berlin television, became projection surface for Greenpeace and Bocatec. With the lettering „Save the Arctic“ Greenpeace appealed to the Russian investigative authorities to withdraw their charge against 28 Greenpeace activists and two Bild journalists.

For the laser projection on the 368 meter high television tower Bocatec rented an extra hotel room. Two 20W RGB laser wrote then one hour long the message Save the Arcticin a loop on the tower. But then the police discovered the projector location and asked Bocatec to stop the action.


The story behind the mega projection
The 18th September 2013 Greenpeace activists wanted to fix a poster at the oil offshore platform  Prirazlomnaya in the Petschora sea. For this platform operated by Gazprom exists no sufficient emergency plans for a potential oil accident. It is the first platform in the arctic that should convey oil on a grand scale. Due to the rough weather conditions, every bigger oil accident can lead to an environmental disaster.

The peaceful protest action for the arctic that is threatened by climate change and industrialization ended then other than expected. The Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise and 30 activists got arrested by the Russian authorities by force without further ado. More than two month later indeed 28 of the „Arctic 30“ are at large on bail, but they are still threatened by multi-year imprisonments. Against this procedure Greenpeace now protest with manifold support, amongst others very public-oriented on the television tower with the help of Bocatec.

The projection was a raving success for Greenpeace. Thousands of passerby people gazed at the tower and thus are perhaps now interested to learn about the backgrounds. Everyone who wants to support the release and freedom of Arctic 30 can write a message to the Russian authorities:

The 11th January the Infiniti Brand Festival blew up all records in respect to event dimensioning. Pop star Katy Perry interrupted her promo tour for her new album „Prism“ and cancelled the Golden Globes to take part in the Infiniti mega event. At her very first performance in China she sang live as headliner for Infiniti her super hits. Bocatec was hired to rock the complete two hour show full of highlights with light and laser technics. A first league mission.

China pulls ahead
In the meantime is clear: China booms. The country has uncountable dollar millionaires and Peking is even more expensive than Munich. Actually no wonder that the enthusiastic Chinese also take our breath with their events and top everything what we have seen before. Anyway, to experience this show live was plain folly- enormous, bombastic, simply „amazing“!
The car manufacturer Infiniti invited to its brand festival over 10.000 customers to the Peking national indoor Olympic Stadium. Furthermore he engaged Katy Perry and several Chinese super stars for the festival and invested in much technical finesse to put everything on stage. Already 10 TV teams buzzed around to broadcast the car show and the performances of the mega stars for the million spectators on the computer and TV screens at home. Bocatec coordinated the main part of the really opulent show technics for all the show.

Extra portion technical delicacy
The array of technics, controlled by Bocatec was incomparable: 600 moving head lights, as well as over hundred other light effects were installed around the stage. 200 Watt white light laser power in 10 laser machines were mounted for the six laser shows with a lot effort flexibly and movable into the 30 meter high stage setting. 800 square meter big LED screens had to be recorded. Additionally six high-power fog machines and six hazers were used. The management of Infiniti and Katy Perry trusted Bocatec completely and passed over the responsibility for the whole planning and programming oft height and laser show. In the studio the Bocatec experts prepared the show before and let it then run via time code and the Phoenix show controller and two full size Grand MA2. All laser projectors were therefor equipped with WLAN radio link antennas because the cable path was to long with 400 meter each. The buildup took 5 days for the five Bocatec guys and several helpers on site.

That Infiniti didn’t take half-measures also for details shows also this mind-blowing gimmick: Around the main stage swam 8 artificial tall swans on lake surfaces. Every swan was manually remote controlled each by one Chinese. As final surprise the Infiniti Logo in maxi format (4 x 6 m) rose from the two meter deep water basin. Unfortunately such technical extras almost disappeared in European shows.

The Brand Story
The Infiniti Motor Company Ltd. Is very successful in China with its premium cars and wants to transport values like freedom and emotion. The core message of Infiniti was developed as story consequently over the whole brand festival. A giant mask in the middle of the stage stood symbolically for the mask that everybody puts on in working live and day to day life. You have to save your face, you pretend, you are cool and unemotionally without evident feelings. Infiniti wants to take off this mask from its customers and help them to get out of themselves. Infiniti itself proves with its bombastic festival that it is able to realize big plans and that fun and game blast every limit. The mask broke into pieces during the show and was thus defeated by joy, innovation and fantasy. Katy Perry performed her top hits “Roar,” “Teenage Dream”, “Unconditionally”, “Part of me” and “Firework” in changing costumes and showed an impressive stage show. Other stars like Jane Z, Chris Lee and Jimmy Lin sang their hits, dancers, show acts and speeches rotated on stage. The audience experienced the brand Infiniti and the latest models innovational and emotionally through spectacular entertainment.

Infiniti made it with this mega festival, it set new benchmarks and everyone in China now keeps an eye on the company. That is why Infiniti needs extremely powerful partners for its events. Katy Perry, the formula one and the Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team or the artists of the Cirque du Soleil ®, Infiniti looks for event partners who make everything possible, step beyond and extravagate. With Bocatec Infiniti thus booked for the second time the expert for event and laser technics from Hamburg who realizes every vision. Infiniti was deeply impressed by the show made by Bocatec and plans already the next events with the laser specialist. The bombastic world premiere of the Audi A3 took place in spring 2014 in Shanghai. Audi China engaged Bocatec for the closing mega outdoor laser show with view on the night skyline. A unique party for the brand-new Audi model that completely enthused the guests.

The 21st March around 450 distributors were invited to the Aurora Plaza directly at the banks of Huangpu River. The building belongs to the face of Shanghai and characterizes the skyline through its huge LED screen.

From 7 pm started the evening with diverse speeches and a dinner. The new Audi models were then presented by top presenters, a dance show and extremely amount of media technics. Then as a final highlight the back and side walls of the locations opened up suddenly and offered a free view onto the illuminated skyline of Shanghai. But the amazement of the audience got even bigger when Bocatec began the 5 minute laser show. At the same time an Audi video appeared on the 3591 m² large screen, light and music completed the mega show. The jubilation of the guests didn’t end, so Audi decided to replay the show in a loop for another half an hour.

Good thing needs preparation
Bocatec traveled to China for the 3 day buildup with its event professionals and a range of high-tech equipment. Full 12 25-30W RGB white light lasers and 6 high power fog machines were packed. In addition 35 7KW Space-Cannons, 70 Sharpy moving heads and of course the Phoenix Show controller and a Grand MA2, which controlled the show via WLAN.

Full commitment pays of
The days before the big event Bocatec had some trouble with the Shanghai authorities because the laser show beamed into the whole airspace above Shanghai. The extremely clear air made the visibility of the laser beams worse and the Bocatec guys had the give extra power to the fog machines. Audi was visible enchanted by the sow and the commitment of the Bocatec crew and plans already other events with the laser technics and show experience of Bocatec.
